Death Salons

Death Salons

Our culture is in desperate need of better ‘death literacy’ if the dying and their families are to meet this profound moment without fear. Open and heartfelt conversations are needed while we are still well. Our beliefs, our hopes and wishes, our medical preferences need to be made known to our loved ones so that they are empowered to act in accordance with them when decisions must be made.

Death Salons, Death Cafes are gatherings that go by many names and provide the opportunity to consider our feelings, thoughts and beliefs around death and dying. They are safe places to voice our fears, ask questions and learn about the options available to us. They are a gently supportive space to open a new curious and courageous conversation. Let’s shift our mindsets together.

Upcoming dates to be released soon.
Small Group sessions also available. Gather a group of friends at your place for afternoon tea and let's get your plans organised!

Each salon will have a theme and include topics such as:

  • Exploring death and its cultural narrative

  • Preparation for end of life care and documentation such as Advanced Medical Care Directives

  • Our hopes, wishes and fears for our final days and what a ‘good death’ means to us

  • How to facilitate 'the conversation' with loved ones

  • Burial choices, including green and eco-friendly options

  • Funerals, memorials and ceremony

* These events are not suitable for people who have suffered a recent bereavement.
